UMMC-Junior defeat Nevinnomyssk at home

In Verkhnyaya Pyshma, UMMC junior team delivered a confident performance against visitors from the Stavropol region in a FONBET Russian Championship – Superleague game. The hosts controlled the contest and earned a 20-point win.

Scoring by quarters: 29–18, 15–21, 19–11, 23–16

UMMC-Junior set the tone early. Sofia Golubeva and Polina Gusakova scored from beyond the arc to open the first quarter. Nevinnomyssk responded quickly and cut the deficit, sparking a physical, back-and-forth stretch with multiple lead changes. However, late in the quarter, Elena Kuzmina’s squad tightened up defensively, went on a run, and extended the lead to 29–18.

In the second quarter, the visitors from the Stavropol region attempted to get back into the game and managed to outscore the hosts in the period. Gabova scored seven quick points, drawing fouls and disrupting UMMC’s offensive rhythm. The Foxes answered with seven points from Samusheva. Despite sustained pressure from Nevinnomyssk, UMMC-Junior maintained their advantage and went into halftime leading 44–39.

The third quarter proved decisive. Sofia Golubeva caught fire and scored eight points in the opening five minutes, pushing her personal total to 23. Eduard Semenov’s team went cold offensively, managing just four points over the same stretch. The Foxes capitalized on the visitors’ struggles, tightened their rebounding, and built a 63–50 lead.   

In the final quarter, any remaining suspense disappeared. At one point, the margin reached 20 points, and UMMC junior team confidently controlled the tempo. The Yekaterinburg players ran their offensive sets efficiently, leaving the visitors no opportunity for a comeback. The final buzzer confirmed a well-deserved 86–66 victory for the Foxes.

UMMC-Junior will play the next game on February 7 at the Sports Palace of UMMC, hosting MBA-MGUSiT-2 from Moscow. Tip-off is scheduled for 13:00 (Yekaterinburg time).
