UMMC rout Dynamo Kursk in Game 1 of the series
In Game 1 of the Fonbet Russian Championship – Premier League Finals, Yekaterinburg comfortably defeated Dynamo Kursk 78–58. The reigning champions made a strong start, taking a 1–0 lead in the best-of-five series. The teams will meet again on April 21 at 19:00 in Yekaterinburg.
Quarter scores: 26–18, 17–13, 11–11, 24–16
The game opened with a physical battle and an early wake-up call for the hosts, as Kursk struck first and looked to dictate the tempo. However, the Foxes answered immediately, catching fire from deep. Tretyakova, Shilova and Papova all connected from beyond the arc, while Nogic led the barrage with three triples, stretching the defense and creating open looks. Dmitrii Donskov’s team rapidly built a comfortable cushion (+7), forcing the blue-and-whites to take timeouts and slow the pace. Despite their resistance, UMMC led 26-18 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the game changed rhythm. The three-point shooting cooled off, giving way to half-court sets and a physical battle in the paint. Both teams went inside, working through pick-and-rolls and isolation plays. Dynamo looked to cut the deficit with aggressive drives and second-chance points, but the hosts kept them at arm’s length with disciplined execution. The teams went into halftime at 43–31 — the game was still within reach, but firmly under Yekaterinburg’s control.
The third quarter was evenly played, ending 11–11, and it briefly looked like Dynamo might claw their way back into it. Aleksandr Kovalev’s team came out more aggressive, knocking down shots from deep and tightening up their perimeter defense. But the first-half cushion allowed the reigning champions to stay in control without forcing the issue. Jovana Nogic continued her strong performance, scoring confidently from both distance and mid-range, keeping the Foxes ahead. UMMC entered the fourth quarter leading 54–42.
In the final stretch, there was no real contest. The hosts shifted into high gear, stepped up defensively, and completely shut down Dynamo’s offense. The psychological factor may have also played a role — Kursk players looked tense and lost focus at key moments. UMMC, on the other hand, stayed composed and closed the game out, turning it into a 78–58 blowout and securing a dominant Game 1 victory in the Finals series. Jovana Nogic was the standout performer of the night with 20 points.
