Foxes edge Dynamo in Game 2 and move one win away from the title
In Game 2 of the Fonbet Russian Premier League Finals, UMMC defeated Dynamo Kursk 69-60 in a far more physical and tightly contested battle, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series. The teams now head to Kursk, where the champion could be decided as early as April 25.
Quarter scores: 15–17, 20–10, 22–19, 12–14
From the opening tip, it was clear this would be no easy ride for the defending champions. The visitors struck first with a three-pointer from Frolkina, and the blue-and-whites quickly found their rhythm, building a 5-point lead by the fourth minute. UMMC struggled from beyond the arc early on, but dominated in the paint — aggressive drives and second-chance points kept the Foxes within striking distance. A late three from Glonti helped Dynamo take a narrow 17–15 lead into the second quarter.
In the second period, the game shifted. Frolkina connected again from deep, but a response from Walker, along with strong drives from birthday girl Kosu and Klyundikova, proved crucial in swinging the momentum. Dmitrii Donskov’s team raised their defensive intensity, started winning the rebounding battle, and pushed the pace in transition, stretching the lead to eight. A timeout from Kovalev briefly slowed the rhythm, but the Foxes had already caught fire. By halftime, the scoreboard read 35–27, with UMMC firmly in control.
After the break, Dynamo tried to mount a comeback — Repnikova hit twice from long range to reduce the deficit to just three points. But UMMC’s class showed at that stage: Bentley and Nogic stepped up, the outside shots started to fall, and the defense once again tightened on the perimeter. A decisive run from the hosts restored a double-digit lead at 12 points. Although Kursk responded with baskets of their own, by the end of the third quarter the score was 57–46 in favor of Yekaterinburg.
The final quarter kept the intrigue alive until the closing minutes. The Foxes tried to pull away for good, but Dynamo responded with back-to-back three-pointers and aggressive defensive pressure, cutting the gap to eight points. However, in the clutch, Alexander Kovalev’s team began to lose focus, while the hosts managed the clock effectively through disciplined half-court possessions. Even Frolkina’s late three at the buzzer had no impact on the outcome — 69–60, and UMMC move one step away from another championship.
UMMC: Kosu (16 points), Klyundikova — double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds), Walker (14).
